サードプレイス / Third Place

先日、雑誌を読んでいたら、「サードプレイス/Third Place」という題名の記事を発見した。
ファーストプレイスが自宅(家族)で、セカンドプレイスが 職場(または学校)だそうだ。
で、サードプレイスとは、自宅と職場の中間に位置していて、いつでも自分を受け入れてくれる場所という定義だった。

10年ほど前に、東京、足立区に住んでいて、そこに『リトルヒューストン』というBARが あった。
僕にとってはそこが、サードプレイスと呼べる場所だったなと頭に浮かんだ。

丸いカウンタがあるだけのアメリカンスタイルのBARで、いつもマルーン５なんかのＭＴＶが流れていて、
マスターとバーテンさん、曜日によって違うアルバイトの女の子で営まれているお店。
(個人的には火曜日の子がお気に入りだった 笑)

仕事などで嫌なことがあると、必ずといっていいほど、その店に行ったものだった。
ドアを開け店にはいるとマスターが『おかえり～』と第一声。
アルバイトの女の子が『おつかれ～』と微笑んでくれて、最後にチーフバーテンダーが『お！元気そうじゃん』と言ってくれる。
それだけで、すぅーとストレスが消えるのを実感した。カウンタに座りいろいろ話しながら、バーボンの美味しさも、マティーニの作り方もそこで覚えた。

The other day, I was reading a magazine and found an article titled "Third Place."
The first place is home (family) and the second place is work (or school).
So, a third place was defined as a place that was halfway between home and work and would always accept you.

About 10 years ago, I lived in Takenotsuka, Tokyo, where there was a BAR called “Little Houston”.
It came to my mind that it was a place you could call a third place.

An American style bar with only a round counter, there is always an MTV like Maroon 5,
A shop run by a master, a bartender, and a part-time girl who depends on the day of the week.
(I personally liked Tuesday's child lol)

I always went to the store when I had a bad job or something.
When opening the door and entering the store, the master said, "Hello!"
A part-time job girl smiled, "Take care ~" and finally the chief bartender said, "Oh! It looks fine. "
With just that, I realized that the stress was gone. While sitting at the counter and talking about things, I learned how delicious bourbon was and how to make martini there.
